Augu Sigyn Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Augu Sigyn was formed in 2015 as a reaction to bad black metal like Myrkur coming out and we wanted to show how black metal should be done with a brutal female vocal and less overproduction.

We are 2 members in the band, Sarah Lee Lamashtu, and Michael Huhle. Our passion for this band comes out of our nordic asa-belief and our belief in shamanism, so we put that into the lyrics and music as an inspiration as well as inspirations from the mythology and our personal lives.

2.So far you have released 2 ep's, a demo and a split, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings?

We would describe it as black doom metal with a melodic atmosphere. The songs on these releases are recorded on various sessions and some of the songs re-appear on each individual release. The cassette release of ”Hængninger af Guder” contains 2 bonus tracks from Sarah Lee Lamashtu's first solo single ”Burning Corpses”. The Bandcamp version of that release also has 2 of the songs as instrumental versions as an extra bonus. The split cd has our darkest material so far together with NOCTU with his very dark music, so there is, therefore, a reason to buy all of the releases.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Mythology, and personal life references such as death experiences and bad life experiences, paranormal hauntings, though a number like ´Lyden af en Menneske Gud´ has the inspiration from all the lyrics and movies about hell coming to earth, that we have heard or seen, but if told from a Nordic mythology theme instead.

Musically we want to take the listener on a journey and therefore the importance of the very personal vocal expression through the lyrics.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Augu Sigyn'?
It's the Eye's of Sigyn - Lokes Wife, which has seen so much suffering but is still fighting for what she thinks is worth it. And as well on the lyrics part, is both on Danish, and Icelandic, so the eyes are on Icelandic 'Augu'.

5.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain ad duo?

We have our thoughts on expanding the band into a live band. If it's going to be with live session musicians or if it becomes a full band, we don't know yet but we are open for whatever comes, but it will not change the core of the band.

6.Recently you where a part of a split with 'Noctu', what are you thoughts on the solo project that had participated on the recording?

(Sarah Lee Lamashtu) Good, very dark. I have a thing for doom and Black metal, so I have enjoyed being a part of this split.

(Michael Huhle) I can say the same thing. Very good, dark and creepy music with a lot of atmospheres.

7.The split was released is  going to be released by 'BloodCrown Records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

I think it is a new label, a good one.  We have a good cooperation with the label.

The label seems to have a very serious and ambitious attitude for its releases and bands working with the record label.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and doom metal?
Only positive! Good reviews and good feedback, so we are quite thankful for that.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that both of the band members are a part of?

(Sarah Lee Lamashtu) My solo bands Syfilis, and Sarah Lee Lamashtu has both gotten releases out. And our other bands that we are in together; Djævles Skrig, WORHT, Streets of Violence, The CRONE, has also been released, or is in the finishing touches for the finished album, or is in the writing process. With WORTH we have been filming a music video, but unfortunately, still, it's missing to get clipped together as the final.

(Michael Huhle) I have a death metal band called Ravishing going and we have a handful of demo cd's released and we are busy working on new songs. Also, I have 2 solo projects. Blackhorned, an oldschool black-thrash metal band and a melodic pagan-doom metal project called Grímnismál. I am writing new music for both projects at the moment for new releases.

10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We are in the writing process on the full album but has been delayed in causes of other releases. The album we are writing on will for sure continues the concept and musical and lyrical direction we already have. The future plan is to get Augu Sigyn further out to the masses.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We have been inspired by some of Celtic Frosts, Bathory and Samael's releases.

(Sarah Lee Lamashtu) At the moment I hear mostly The Ruins of Beverast, Morgoth, RAGNAROK, Carpathian Forest.

(Michael Huhle) I listen to a lot of different music, but at the moment bands like Darkthrone, old Benediction, early Samael, and Venom are being played, but also many traditional heavy metal bands from my youth I listen to, especially the new album from Judas Priest is amazing.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

(Sarah Lee Lamashtu) Painting, drawing, and Tattooing. Plus my addiction to horror movies and building coffins.

(Michael Huhle) Painting, writing (a future book is in the planning), history, movies/documentaries, gardening etc.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We are thankful for the interest that has been shown already and that we can see that our idea is working and the band is moving forward. That really fire us up to work more intense on the album. So we thank for all the support we have gotten so far.

Stay metal and support the music!
