Misericordia Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
We have mostly been working with some new songs, but all of us has been involved in some other bands simultaneously and had therefore unfortunately not been able to do any live shows recently for our new album Throne of Existence.

2.Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
The production of Throne of Existence is greatly improved compared to our earlier releases. We recorded most of the album in Deobrigula's studio and hired one of the best studio engineers "Realtime Recording" in our hometown for a final mix and mastering. I think that our old fans still will recognize our music and atmosphere on Throne of Existence since our main ambition still is to create aggressive, dynamic and melodic black metal as before. We have all evolved as musicians during all these years and this has of course also affected our creative process and the song writing.

3.This is the first full length to be released in 10 years while there was a promo in 2010, can you tell us a little bit more about the gap between releases?
There are many reasons of this gap between our album, but we have had some trouble to find enough time that Misericordia actually deserved during these years. Other projects within music, art, work and family constellations are some of the reasons to this big gap.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
I have big difficulties to understand how people still can believe in God during this century. Stupidity and cruelty preformed in the name of religion is still one of our main fuel cells for our lyrics, music and inspiration. The insanity of mankind seams to accelerate every year so we won't have any problems to find new fuel and inspiration in the future either.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Misericordia'?
The name Misericordia stands for a "Merciful Death". The world would be a much better place if people just could challenge their blind beliefs and allow themselves to take part of the knowledge and science that humanity has gained so far. They who has any intelligence left will quickly realize that they have been mislead and will perhaps then give their blind beliefs a Merciful Death.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance
I think that our shows are more intense and aggressive than any recording of our music will ever be able to snap up. We have had a lot of both good and bad gigs during our years with Misericordia, but we had one really good show here together with Year of the Goat and Marduk in our home town a couple of years ago. It is a huge difference and prestige to play in front of a public filled with people you know.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
Unfortunately not right now.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of black metal?
The album has been warmly welcomed by both fans and zines so far. The only thing that I misses is a tour to promote this album and meet up all metal heads out there again.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are involved with?
Deobrigula and Endymion also play in a progressive band with vibes from the seventies, called Year of the Goat. They are recording their second full-length album right now that really sounds great so far.

I play in a doom/death band called Warden Clyffe that are in the writing process for our second full-length album as well. I also have a progressive death metal project under the working name STIR that perhaps will hit the light during next year.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We will probably end up with less grind and try to apply more darkness and dynamic in our songs, but with the same bleak atmosphere as Misericordia always has had.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I still mostly get my inspiration from older bands like Morbid Angel, Emperor, Cynic, Mayhem, Immortal, Dissection.

12.How would you describe your views on Satanism and Occultism?
I have personally realized that every belief that we humans ever made up is all fake. I was searching for answers and something bigger when I were a uneducated teenager, but I fortunately quickly realized the everything behind it really were fucked up.

Some humans are very greedy by instinct when it's come to money or power over other people. This may not only be seen as bad thing, since it probably also is one of the reason to our more or less successful evolution, that has led us to develop the civilization that we are in today. The problem is that there are far too many followers that just wait to swallow the scams from the first hypocrite they meet, to let their lies infest all their thoughts for life.

Most "normal" people need to feel that the belong to something, and are therefore often attracted to be a part of a herd. Some of us start to play black metal in a band and some other goes to church to feast on the never ending recourses of Christ's blood and flesh.

Satanism and occultism is for me the same humbug as all other religions and myths. I have some problems to ignore the ideas and stupidity that some religious people preaches but I tries to accept all these faiths if it stays out of politics and school education. Misericordia are against all religions but I can understand if people associate us with Satanism since we sometimes use blood during our shows. We used blood for other purposes than to celebrate any mythological creatures thou.

Something happens to you when you drain yourself in blood. Try it! For us, this action immediately transport us to the mental and psychological state that is perfect for our music and aggression on stage. I don't know why really, but maybe because blood always has had an huge impact on our history and has both fascinated and horrified people over centuries. Several cultures and belief systems strongly associates blood with life and death and some people sees our actions as a shocking blasphemy against their beliefs.

It is a difficult topic, but practice whatever you want behind your locked doors or within your herd. I think that it is good for our mental health to be a part of a group/herd, but it is very important that people still think for themselves.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?
I have many interest unfortunately and I'm fortunate to have a work that I like to spend my time at. I'm training some martial art also but music is my main interest.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Kill God, Satan, Santa and the rest of all fairytales! Then embrace reality and enjoy our latest album Throne of Existence
Peace/
