Portent/Dismal Dieties/2013 EP Review

This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Portent  with  the  musical  continuing  their  hybrid  sound  of  old  school  black  metal  and  doom  with  the  ep  being  self  released  in  2013  and  called  "Dismal  Dieties".

Drums  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  playing  with  not  much  in t he  way  of  fast  drumming  or  blast  beats  being  present  on  this  recording,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow  to  mid  riffs  riffs  that  combine  early  90's  occult  black  metal  with  doom  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  with  some  melody  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  at  times  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  dark  metal  guitar  leads.

Vocals  range  from  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  to  deep  growls  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  spoken  words,  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and occult  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Portent  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal  mixed  with  doom,  you  should  check  out  this  e.p.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS INCLUDE  "Woven"  and  "Paranoiac  Invocation".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
