Forteresse/Crepuscale d' Octobre/Sepulchral Productions/2011 CD Review

Forteresse are a band from Quebec that has had their previous album reviewed a year ago by this zine that played a more ambient style of black metal on that one but go for a more aggressive sound with the new one and this is a review of their 2011 album "Crepsucle d, Octobre' which was released by Sepulcharal Productions.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being used on occasion, while the synths have a very dark atmospheric, ambient feeling to them when they are utilized in addition there is a brief use of folk instruments being used before a couple of songs that give the music a pagan feeling, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast raw and primitive sounding black metal riffs that utilize some melodies at times, while the lead guitars are very raw, primitive, melodic and epic sounding black metal guitar solos and leads.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams mixed in with some spoken word parts, while the lyrics are written in French and cover Quebec Nationalism, History and Separation, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.

In my opinion this is another great album from Forteresse and if you where a fan of their previous recording, you should enjoy this one as well. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Le Triomphe Des Douze' and "Spectres Du Solstice". RECOMMENDED BUY.
